I was lucky enough to spend a few weeks in Marseille last August and I will be the first to admit - I loved it so much more than I ever thought I would. 1) the food is incredible 2) it has some of the most amazing sunsets 3) it just feels much more authentic and “cool” than other places in the South of France.
So here are all of my favourite places and recommendations:

WHERE TO EAT & DRINK
Les Bords de Mer | A chic seaside restaurant which is great for lunch or dinner. Try to book a table on their rooftop! It’s more casual up there and they have great cocktails. @lesbordsdemer
Petrin Couchette | The best sandwiches in Marseille. Last time I was there i panicked and purchased every sandwich on the menu which ended up being the best idea for our boat trip. @petrincouchette
Tuba Club | One of my favourite spots in Marseille for a lonnnnng lunch. I could sit here and drink a crisp white wine with endless carpaccio all day. @tuba.club
Figure | A trendy wine bar a with amazing small plates near Vauban. They have a cool wine list and honestly I had the best steak tartare here that I’ve ever had in my life. @figuremarseille
Sepia | Fantastic restaurant with a great menu and terrace during the Summer. @sepia13007
Chez Toto | Cute bistro with fabulous food. @bistrotcheztoto
WHERE TO SHOP
Maison Empereur | Marseille’s oldest hardware store turned treasure trove of timeless French goods (think linens, pottery, dinnerware, etc) - my heaven. @maisonempereur
WHAT TO DO
Rent a boat and spend the day sailing in and out of the calanques all the way to Cassis - it is pure magic. I would definitely recommend going early and also going with someone who actually knows what they’re doing as the water can get really choppy going in and out. One of our cushions went overboard (of course, I was the one to blame) and I never heard the end of it. lol
High in my list of places to visit!
